What is 410 Stainless Steel?

The main chemical components of 410 stainless steel include carbon (C), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), chromium (Cr) and iron (Fe). Among them, the carbon content determines the hardness and strength of the material, generally between 0.15% and 0.35%. The silicon content can improve the strength and heat resistance of steel and is generally controlled within 1.00%.

The manganese content can improve the strength and toughness of steel and is generally controlled within 1.00%. Phosphorus and sulfur are impurity elements that have adverse effects on the performance of steel, so they need to be controlled within a lower content range.

Chromium is the main alloying element of stainless steel. Its content determines the corrosion resistance of steel, generally between 11.5% and 13.5%.

The density (specific gravity) of 410 stainless steel is approximately 7.75 grams/cubic centimeter.

410 stainless steel is a kind of martensitic stainless steel with good corrosion resistance, machinability and toughness. It is usually used in blades and valve products. Higher strength and hardness can be obtained after heat treatment, but it is not suitable for use in harsh corrosive environments. In addition, 410 stainless steel can also be made into food-grade products, such as knives, cutlery and spoons, for daily applications such as kitchen utensils.
